Beryl
Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to weaken as it approaches the Lesser Antilles. It will enhance shower and thunderstorm activity later today and into early Monday for the Leeward and northern Windward Islands. It is predicted to be a tropical depression as it crosses the islands. However, it is possible that it will degenerate into a trough of low pressure before then. The system will weaken to a remnant trough by tomorrow in the eastern Caribbean. Widespread significant impacts are not expected. However, locally heavy showers and thunderstorms will be possible. These showers and storms may impact Puerto Rico on Monday.

Chris
Tropical Depression Three has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Chris this morning by the National Hurricane Center. Through at least late Monday or early Tuesday, the storm is expected to meander offshore of North Carolina while gradually strengthening. At this time, we think it will remain far enough offshore to not result in significant impacts to North Carolina.

By the middle of the week, Chris is expected to be tracking to the northeast while intensifying. It is forecast to become a hurricane. Towards the end of the week, it will track near or over portions of Atlantic Canada. Though it may lose its tropical characteristics by the time it reaches Atlantic Canada, it will likely still be a strong storm system. There is uncertainty regarding the timing of Chris’ approach to Atlantic Canada.

It is expected to remain well east of the United States East Coast. Please see our latest advisory for more details.

Other Disturbances / Areas to Watch
We have added Disturbance 16. It is just now moving off the coast of Africa. It is expected to track quickly westward. Due to the presence of very dry air, the system is unlikely to become stronger. Development is not expected.
