- The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Lower Mississippi River from Mile Marker (MM) 260 Above Head of Passes (AHP) to MM 262 AHP. This advisory is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with salvage operations on a sunken barge being conducted near MM 261 in the center of the navigation channel. The operation will be conducted from 7:00am – 5:00pm daily, beginning on March 22, 2024 until salvage operations are complete.
A. A one-way traffic scheme will be implemented from MM 260 to MM 262, starting at 0700 on March 22, 2024, 24-hrs a day, until the salvage operations are complete. Mariners are urged to give wide berth and transit at slowest safe speed to minimize wake while passing through the area.
B. All vessels transiting in the area shall contact the M/V SARAH PAIGE via VHF Ch. 13 or 87A to make passing arrangements. Alternatively, vessels may contact the vessel via at 225-454-8324.
