Weeks Marine has cancelled the previously scheduled channel closure for tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2024. Due to the work completed yesterday Weeks will utilize the full channel closure on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 0600 hours to 1800 hours to install the submerged dredge pipeline in the trench that has been dredge across the channel.
ONE REMAINING SCHEDULED CHANNEL CLOSURE:
- WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2024: NO TRANSIT RESTRICTIONS are expected.
- THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2024: NO TRANSIT RESTRICTIONS are expected.
- FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2024: NO TRANSIT RESTRICTIONS are expected.
- SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2024: Complete Channel Closure from 0600 hours to 1800 hours for all vessel traffic from Mile 2 AHP to Mile 0 (Head of Passes). Weeks will utilize the scheduled backup closure that was added by design to account for challenges such as those experienced this morning. This closure will be utilized to install the submerged dredge pipeline into the cross-channel trench and dredging from the HDDA should commence this weekend.
A Contact Pilot is on-scene and stationed on the cutterhead J.S. CHATRY standing by on VHF-FM channels 67 and 71, or by phone at (985) 237-5041 for questions or status updates.
Pilot boats are exempt from the above provisions and excluded from the terms of the MSIB during complete channel closures but will communicate with the on-scene coordinator the Contact Pilot.
On days of full channel closures, vessels intending to arrive or depart the Mississippi River on the day of a closure must arrive at Pilottown (outbound) no later than 5:30 a.m. or Southwest Pass Entrance Light (inbound) no later than 4:00 a.m. on the morning of the closure.
