Commencing on October 2, 2023, and continuing through December 1, 2023, the Algiers Lock will be closed to all marine traffic, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, due to dewatering operations and emergency repairs to the canal end gates. Mariners are also reminded that continuing until further notice, Harvey Lock is closed to marine traffic due to risk from reverse head conditions as a result of low water levels on the Mississippi River.
Port Allen Lock can be used as an alternate route until reopening of Harvey Lock.

Additionally, mariners maintaining vessels in the Harvey Canal (west of the Lapalco Flood Gate, GIWW, MM 2.75 west of the Harvey Lock to the West Closure Complex, GIWW, MM 7.0 west of the Harvey Lock) or in the Algiers Canal, will need to maintain extra vigilance. Those mariners with vessels transiting within the Regulated Navigation Area (RNA) West, not part of an Annual Hurricane Operations Plan (33 CFR 165.838), need to have immediate means of evacuating should the RNA be enforced. This includes vessels without their own propulsion systems, maintaining sufficient means of evacuating their vessel(s) in accordance with the RNA.
