MSIB XX-127

Inner Harbor Navigational Canal Lock Closure, St. Claude Bridge Closure, and GIWW Alternate Route

This Marine Safety Information Bulletin (MSIB) supersedes MSIB Vol. XX Issue 087a “UPDATED IHNC Lock Closure and GIWW Alternate Route” and Issue 088a “UPDATED St. Claude Avenue Bridge Repairs” and is effective immediately.

Repairs at the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock, located at mile marker 6.5 East of Harvey Lock, have been completed.  As such, the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) route through New Orleans is the primary means of navigation for east/west traffic along the ICW.  The aids along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway Alternate Route described in MSIB Vol. XX Issue 087a are being discontinued.  All Aids to Navigation between and including Breton/Chandeleur ICW Alternate Route Lighted Buoy 1 (LLNR-9572.27) and Breton/Chandeleur ICW Alternate Route Buoy 26 (LLNR-9572) along with those between Breton/Chandeleur ICW Alternate Route Light 28 (LLNR-11672.74) and Breton/Chandeleur ICW Alternate Route Lighted Buoy 110 (LLNR-11671) are included in this discontinuance.

In addition, the repairs on the St. Claude Avenue Bridge have also been completed and the bridge is now operational.

For more information on the IHNC Lock operations, mariners should contact the lockmaster on VHF-FM channels 14 or 16, or by telephone at (504) 945-2157.
