Corps Mississippi River Maintenance Forum Meeting Notes Attachment 4120

LAMA’s report on the Corps’ Mississippi River Maintenance Forum meeting held via conference call this morning, Wednesday, April 1, 2020 and the corresponding agenda are attached.

During the Maintenance Forum call the MVN announced that a Stakeholder Meeting will be conducted via teleconference tomorrow to announce the official decision on operating the Bonnet Carré Spillway as a flood control structure or not.  Although, the opening is expected to occur on Friday, April 3, 2020 as the trigger point flow of 1.25 million cubic feet per second is expected to be reached.  The estimates indicate that up to 130,000 cubic feet per second would need to be diverted to maintain the trigger point flow.

This would be another historic opening for multiple reasons, including the need to operate the structure in three straight years and also due to the impact of COVID-19 this will be the first opening that is not opened to the public and limited to only essential USACE personnel.
