The heaviest squalls have moved into the Florida Panhandle to the north of Ft. Walton Beach and Destin and are entering southeastern Alabama. Surface observations along the coast are indicating wind gusts reaching tropical storm-force. However, sustained winds are dropping below tropical storm-force along the coast. Therefore, we have reduced the maximum sustained winds to 40 mph which may be contained in any heavy squalls closer to the coast. As Alberto’s center moves fully inland this evening, the system will weaken to a subtropical depression. The system will spread heavy rain bands tonight into Tuesday morning across portions of the southeastern U.S. Some of these bands may contain severe thunderstorms capable of producing isolated tornadoes. Localized flooding is likely with some some of these rain bands tonight into Tuesday morning.
