MSIB XXV-006

The Captain of the Port (COTP) New Orleans requests that Federal, State, local, and industry partners exercise caution as the Southeast Louisiana area is impacted by winter weather this Tuesday, January 21, 2025 through Friday, January 24, 2025.

Facilities and vessels are advised to review their heavy weather plans and take all necessary precautions to adequately prepare for adverse weather conditions. Mariners are encouraged to remain aware of road and bridge closures, and environmental conditions for voyage planning purposes. Wind and visibility may become severely impacted during adverse weather conditions, and caution should be exercised during this period. Further, available pilot times are subject to change during periods of heavy weather and mariners should consult their applicable pilot organizations for pilot availability.

The following resources are available to assist mariners with preparations:

·       Louisiana Department of Transportation Road Conditions: https://www.511la.org/

·       Louisiana Department of Transportation Ferry and Moveable Bridge Status: https://wwwapps.dotd.la.gov/operations/ferrystatus/fmbs_Status.aspx

Mariners are reminded that drawbridges may not be operating when sustained wind speeds exceed 25 knots or when an evacuation is in progress.
