The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Captain of the Port New Orleans, under the authority of the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, has established multiple safety zones within the Captain of the Port New Orleans area of responsibility. These safety zones are needed to protect persons and vessels from the hazards associated with Entergy Electrical Transmission Line Rebuild project in vicinity of Jean Lafitte, LA, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) Mile Marker (MM) 15 west of Harvey Lock (WHL). Below are the locations of established safety zones around each tower that will be enforced from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 22, 2023:
- Tower # 286
Location: 1500-feet radius around tower at 29°44’22.06″N, 90° 8’40.96″W
- Tower # 287
Location: 1500-feet radius around tower at 29°44’29.72″N, 90° 8’33.25″W
- Tower # 288
Location: 1500-feet radius around tower at 29°44’34.58″N, 90° 8’28.39″W
All vessels are prohibited from entering these safety zones unless granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or designated representative. The designated representative is the on-scene Contact Pilot onboard the crew boat CLAYCLAY and may be contacted on VHF-FM Channel 13.
