The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Lower Mississippi River Forecast Center (LMRFC) released the following update on river stage conditions today. 

“No big changes. The crests on the lower Ohio and lower Mississippi Rivers are slightly higher due to more rainfall since last Wednesday’s update.  

Rises continue on the lower Ohio and lower Mississippi Rivers from last week’s rainfall.  The lower Ohio River at Cairo, IL is expected to crest at 38.0ft near the end of the month.  Currently, the forecast shows all locations remaining below flood levels.  The crests on the lower Mississippi River are not expected until the first and second week of March. 

The 16 day future rainfall model continues to show a higher secondary rise for the lower Ohio River.   The model is showing the lower Ohio River at Cairo, IL cresting at 42.0ft for March 14th.  Minor flooding would be possible on the lower Ohio River for the second week of March and near flood levels at Red River Landing, LA for the third week of March.  The model is showing crest heights near seasonal levels.”
