**Update** The barge salvage operations have been suspended until July 06, 2024. The Lower Mississippi River is now open to two-way traffic. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution in the vicinity of position 30⁰30.098N, 91⁰11.790W. The barge is currently marked with a hazard buoy equipped with a flashing amber light. All mariners shall transit the area with extreme caution.
02JULY2024:
- The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Lower Mississippi River from Mile Marker (MM) 233.2 to MM 234 Above Head of Passes (AHP). This advisory is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with the salvage and removal of a sunken barge occurring on the left descending bank of the River near MM 233.5.
- Mariners are advised that the Lower Mississippi River will be closed to all southbound traffic from MM 233.4 to MM 234 AHP on July 04, 2024, from 7:00 am until 9:30 pm.
- All northbound vessels transiting this area are requested to proceed at slowest safe speed after checking in with the M/V SUE ELLEN DIAMOND on VHF Ch. 67 or 87A. Alternatively, the M/V SUE ELLEN DIAMOND may be contacted by phone at (225) 937-9550.
