1. The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Atchafalaya River at Mile Marker (MM) 41.5. This advisory is needed to protect persons and vessels from potential safety hazards associated with repair work to the fendering system of the Krotz Springs Railroad Bridge. The operation will be conducted Monday through Thursday, 8 AM to 5 PM, from April 8, 2024 – April 25, 2024.
2. As a result of this repair work, Union Pacific Railroad requests that all vessels transiting the bridge provide a 20-minute advance notice to the bridge tender to allow the small boat conducting the repairs to clear the area.
3. Mariners are advised to transit at slowest safe speeds to minimize wake whenever operating in the vicinity of the Krotz Springs Railroad Bridge at MM 41.5 during the fender repair operations.
