The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a Safety Advisory for the waters of the Atchafalaya River in the vicinity of MM 14 on the Left Descending Bank. This advisory is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential hazards associated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) subaqueous stone replacement operations.
The subaqueous stone replacement operations will be conducted 7 days a week 10 hours a day, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. until 30 June 2022. During operations, construction equipment will extend into the channel, affecting southbound vessel traffic.
Southbound traffic can expect delays while transiting in the vicinity of MM 14 of the Atchafalaya River. Mariners are advised to contact M/V MISS NINA on VHF channels 13, 16 or 78 prior to proceeding southbound.
Mariners are urged to transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake and proceed with caution after passing arrangements have been made.
