MSIB Volume 072 describes additional repair efforts will affect the horizontal clearance of navigational spans:
  •  A steel beam template will be temporarily installed on the pivot pier of the swing span. Once installed, it will reduce the horizontal clearance of the western portion of the swing span by 3′ 8″, allowing for 125′ of horizontal clearance.
  •  The steel beam template will be marked with amber lights at night.
  •  A construction barge will be anchored immediately north of the eastern portion of the swing span. This barge will block the eastern span, so vessels will be restricted to only western channel swing span transits.
  •  At night, the barge will display an all-around white light and the anchor chains will be marked with buoys indicating where the anchor chains enter the water.

MSIB_Vol_XIX_Issue_072_Update_to_Krotz_Springs_Railroad_Bridge_Repair_Efforts.pdf

Beginning September 11, 2019 continuing through October 9, 2019 additional repair efforts will be underway that will further reduce the horizontal clearance of the swing span portion of the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge
located at mile marker 41.5 on the Atchafalaya River in Krotz Springs, LA. These restrictions are in addition to the daylight transit closure and repair efforts listed in MSIB Volume XIX Issue 069, Krotz Springs Railroad Bridge Repair.
The following repair efforts will be in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week:

A steel beam template will be temporarily installed on the pivot pier of the swing span. Once installed, it will reduce the horizontal clearance of the western portion of the swing span by 3′ 8″, allowing for 125′ of horizontal clearance.
The steel beam template will be marked with amber lights at night.
A construction barge will be anchored immediately north of the eastern portion of the swing span. This barge will block the eastern span, so vessels will be restricted to only western channel swing span transits.
At night, the barge will display an all-around white light and the anchor chains will be marked with buoys indicating where the anchor chains enter the water.

Mariner s planning to transit the Krotz Springs Railroad Bridge are advised to contact the bridge tender at least three hours in advance of arrival to determine what portions of the bridge will be blocked.
The towing vessel LAUREL BETH will also be onsite monitoring VHF-FM channel 13 and 20a. For further information, contact the following:
