The Corps’ Mississippi Valley New Orleans (MVN) District’s Lock and Waterway Status 60-Day Forecast as issued today (March 6, 2019) is attached.
The status report updates conditions on the on the Calcasieu, Bayou Boeuf, Old RiverLocks, the East and West Calumet Floodgates and the Harvey Lock. Status changes since the previous report are listed in bold.
The update on the continuing long-term intermittent scheduled closures at the Calcasieu Lock due to ongoing Chamber Guide Wall work is reproduced below:
“Calcasieu Lock is closed to navigation intermittently Monday through Friday from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm each day or as indicated by the Corps. This schedule will continue until approximately 1 December 2019.”
The information on the upcoming intermittent closure for Chamber Guide Wall Replacement at the Bayou Boeuf Lock is reproduced below:
“The construction on the bayou boeuf lock replacement guidewall has been postponed until further notice. The lock will remain open for passage of navigation traffic until the current high river conditions improve.”
The information on the two ongoing repair projects at the Old River Lock are reproduced in below:
“Commencing on 06 March 2019, Old River Lock will be closed to navigation due to high river conditions. The lock will reopen once the Mississippi River recedes below 60.5 at Red River Landing.”
The information on the closure due to heavy siltation being experienced at the East Calumet Floodgate is reproduced below:
“Continuing until further notice, East Calumet Floodgate will remain closed to navigation due to heavy siltation on the west side of the structure making it unsafe for navigation.”
The information on the closure due to high water levels being experienced at the West Calumet Floodgate is reproduced below:
“Continuing until further notice, West Calumet Floodgate will remain closed to navigation due to high water conditions.”
The information on the closure for gate repair at the Harvey Lock is reproduced below:
“Harvey Lock is currently closed due to a component on one of the gates breaking and rendering the gate inoperable. Repairs are ongoing. The lock will reopen as soon as the gate is operable, which is expected to happen sometime on Thursday 07 March 2019 if all goes well. If repairs are complete sooner, the lock will open sooner.”
