The Corps has advised that as the water level (river stage) has risen it can no longer effectively lay revetment mats at the Poydras location (Mile 81 Above Head of Passes [AHP]). The revetment operations there have ceased and the Corps is preparing to move downriver to work on one of the remaining two locations, either at English Turn at Mile 76.5 on the right descending bank or Gravolet at Mile 50.4 on the left descending bank.
The Corps intends to resume revetment mat operations by about 1400 hours today, presumably at English Turn. However, the next location has yet to be confirmed.
The restrictions originally proposed at English Turn were for a slow bell with minimal wake and the Mat Sinking Unit to fold in at night. The restrictions originally proposed at Gravolet were for a slow bell with a minimal wake.
A more detailed update will be issued when the Corps can confirm the new location and the Pilots and Coast Guard can confirm the transit restrictions. The unseasonably high river stages have been challenging, in normal conditions the operations at English Turn and Gravolet have been less problematic.
