The Propeller Club of the Port of New Orleans will present Congressman Steve Scalise with the 85th Annual Maritime Person of the Year Award tonight at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott.

Congressman Scalise represent Louisiana’s First Congressional District that is home to both the highest domestic maritime employment of any Congressional District and the gateway to the Mississippi River. Congressman Scalise knows the importance of ensuring our ports and waterways are dredged appropriately by demanding healthy levels of funding within the Harbor Maintenance and Inland Waterways Trust Funds. Since being elected to Congress, he has successfully advocated for biennial Water Resource Development Acts (WRDA) which include necessary improvements and increased funding to the Corps of Engineers, and authorize or modify critical flood protection and deepening projects nationwide, including deepening the Mississippi River to post-Panamax levels.
