The French Quarter Festival will be held in New Orleans, LA beginning on April 13, 2023 and lasting through April 16, 2023. As part of the celebrations, multiple events will be taking place on or adjacent to the Lower Mississippi River (LMR). In anticipation of these events, the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port New Orleans, under the authority of the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, will be establishing the following safety and security zones:

Temporary Safety Zone; French Quarter Festival; April 13, 2023* from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.:

  • All navigable waters between Mile Marker (MM) 94 and MM 95 Above Head of Passes (AHP) to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with a fireworks display

 All vessels are prohibited from entering the safety zone unless they have been granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or a designated representative. They may be contacted on VHF-FM Channel 16 or 67.

*In the event of inclement weather, the safety zone will be enforced from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. on April 14, 2023

Temporary Security Zone; French Quarter Festival; from 10 a.m. on April 13 through 10 p.m. on April 16, 2023:

  • All navigable waters within 400 yards of the Left Descending Bank between MM 94.4 and MM 95.1 AHP, LMR

Except for Vessel Movement Reporting System Users (i.e. vessels accustomed to contacting New Orleans Traffic) operating in the Algiers Point VTS Special Area, all vessels are prohibited from entering the security zone, unless they have been granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or a designated representative. They may be contacted on VHF-FM Channel 12 or 67.
