Why:   New Years Eve Fireworks Display

 

All vessels are prohibited from entering the safety zone unless they have been granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or a designated representative.

Waterway Status – Temporary Safety Zone MM 229.5 –230.5 LMR

The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port New Orleans, under The Authority of the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, has established a temporary safety zone on the Lower Mississippi River, Above Head of Passes, from MM 229.5 to MM 230.5, extending the entire width of the river in the vicinity of downtown Baton Rouge, LA. This safety zone is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with a fireworks display. This safety zone is effective from 11:30 p.m. on December 31, 2019 until 12:30 a.m. local time on January 01, 2020.

All vessels are prohibited from entering this safety zone unless they have been granted permission by the Captain of the Port New Orleans or designated representative. Only vessels participating in the fireworks display and pre-designated vessels are permitted within the safety zone after 11:30 p.m. All vessels requesting permission to enter or transit through this safety zone are required to contact the Coast Guard.

A Coast Guard vessel will be on scene for the duration of the event and can be contacted on VHF-FM Channel 16 and 67 or via the Officer of the Day at the number below.
