The Corps of Engineers Mississippi Valley New Orleans (MVN) continues responding to active shoaling in Southwest Pass (SWP) deposited by long-term high river stages (flood event).  There are three industry hopper dredges and one government hopper dredge working in SWP.  There are two cutterhead dredges working to restore the Hopper Dredge Disposal Area at the Head of Passes.  The MVN received an awardable bid from Manson Construction to the advertisement of Southwest Pass Hopper Dredge Rental Contract #8-2019 on May 7, 2019.   Manson Constructions expects to respond to this contract with the hopper dredge NEWPORT.

Colonel Michael Clancy the District Commander for MVN has scheduled a stakeholder meeting at the Corps’ New Orleans District to discuss the potential operation of the Bonnet Carré Spillway, the meeting is tomorrow.  An update will be provided afterwards, but indications are the flood control structure could be operated for the second time in 2019 (another historic event/first ever).
