SUBJECT: No Anticipated Impact to CBP Operations if the Government Shuts Down

Several vessel agents, carriers, and terminal operators have inquired about U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s [CBP] operations
should the federal government shutdown due to a funding lapse or hiatus.
The federal government has experienced these types of events many times over the last several years. During each event, CBP in New Orleans has been able to minimize any impact to port operations and will do the same should the hiatus go into effect at midnight on December 21, 2018.
If there is any change in the operational guidance received from CBP Headquarters that may impact port operations the Trade Community will be notified immediately via a Southern Currents Notice.
CBP operations and business hours will remain as normal.
