Please see below for information about the upcoming tour and demonstration schedule for the survey vessel Blake on December 4th. Please note that dockside tours are open to everyone, but you must RSVP in advance for the vessel runs. Please send RSVPs and inquires to Mr. Tim Osborn of NOAA at tim.osborn@noaa.gov. Thank you all to the interest and support in NOAA’s ongoing work- through David Evans and Associates, for the Precision Navigation Survey Project of the Mississippi River.
The work to date has been very productive and supported by many. The Survey Vessel Blake is working from Baton Rouge to SW Pass and has acquired both laser scanning and 360 degree imaging of all the shore areas, bridges, terminals and fleet areas.
With the work along the shore and bridge areas, dual multi beam sonar has also been used to acquire very high resolution imagery of the River bottom, channel, anchorages and terminal areas – by the Blake and a smaller field boat working with the main ship.
The survey team and Blake are in the New Orleans area now.
With the visit and meetings by NOAA Admiral Shep Smith- the Admiral and the DEA Survey Team would like to invite you to an open house and tour of the Blake, on Tuesday December 4th. Below is the location and short agenda-
When- Tuesday, Dec 4th, from 9:00-5:00
Morning and Afternoon Tour and Demonstration- Survey Vessel Blake
9:00-11:00- Morning Tour and short vessel run on the River
11:00 – 1:00- Open Tour and Visit to Blake, staying at Dock
1:00-3:00- Afternoon Tour and short vessel run on the River
3:00-5:00- Open Tour and Visit to Blake, staying at Dock
Where- Dock/Landing, on the River next to the Hilton and the Riverwalk shopping center, next to the paddle wheeler
For the morning and afternoon sessions- 9:00 to 11:00 and 1:00 to 3:00, we ask for you to RSVP us – so that we can get a head count to make sure we can accomodate everyone on a short vessel ride on the River and a demonstration of the laser imaging and multi beam sonar
For the dockside tours 11:00-1:00 and 3:00-5:00- this is an open invitation to visit the Blake and meet the Team. No RSVP is needed.
