Federal Pilots – 12 Foot Gauge Restrictions
Rescinded on 05/15/2018
As a result of the Carrollton Gage reading 12′ and continuing to rise; The Federal Pilots are recommending the following operational restrictions.
- All head down landings shall cease until the Carrollton Gage reads 13′ and falling.
- All mooring operations requiring a line boat shall be conducted during daylight hours only.
- Chalmette Slip Operations shall be conducted with two tractor tugs during daylight only.
- For the purpose of determining daylight, the official times of sunrise and sunset shall be used.
- All operational recommendations shall return to normal once the Carrollton Gage reaches 13′ and falling.
- Federal Pilots – SWP Towing-Astern Restrictions
On 3/9 the following recommendation is made:
“The towing astern of loaded ocean going barges inbound and outbound Southwest Pass shall cease until the Carrollton Gage reaches 12’ and continues to fall”.
Federal Pilots – 44’ Draft Restriction Issued 3/19/2018, Rescinded 4/7/2018
Please note the following and effective immediately.
We, The Federal Pilots of Louisiana recommend a deep draft not to exceed 44’ freshwater based on the latest soundings from the ACOE regarding Southwest Pass.

Due to the deteriorating conditions as shown on the latest ACOE surveys; The Federal Pilots are recommending a maximum freshwater draft of 42’ until further notice.
This shall take effect at 1000 on 04/07/2018.
Federal Pilots – 44’ Draft Restriction Issued 4/26/2018

Due to the continued shoaling and ongoing dredging operations between the Southwest Pass Seabuoy and mm1.5 AHP; The Federal Pilots of Louisiana are recommending a maximum freshwater deep draft of 44′ until further notice.
This draft recommendation is effective immediately.
Federal Pilots – Draft Increased to 45’ Issued 05/30/2018
The Board has reviewed the latest soundings from the ACOE and effective immediately the Federal Pilots will increase their draft recommendation to 45’.

As a result of the Carrollton Gauge reading 12’ and continuing to fall, we are rescinding our recommendation that all mooring operations requiring a line boat be conducted between the official times of sunrise and sunset.
