SUBJECT: Trade Community Parking Spots in Front of the New Orleans Customhouse

Effective Monday August 22, 2016 the Federal Protective Service (FPS) Security Guards stationed at the New Orleans Customhouse will have a limited number of parking placards to loan to vessel agents or brokers for Canal Street parking in front of the Customhouse when arriving to conduct CBP business. The discretion to loan a parking placard remains with the FPS security guards.
While CBP/FPS cannot guarantee that a parking spot on Canal Street, or a parking placard will be available, agents/brokers may request a temporary parking placard when entering the Customhouse via the procedures below:

  1. Agents/brokers will come to the front door of the Customhouse and request a parking placard prior to screening.
  2. If available, security will issue a placard and retrieve the agent’s driver’s license or TWIC.
  3. Agent/broker will return to their vehicle and place the placard on the vehicle dash.
  4. Agent/broker will return to Customhouse and pass through screening (if necessary).
  5. Agent/broker will conduct CBP business.
  6. Agent/broker will depart the Customhouse, retrieve the placard, and return to the front door of the Customhouse to return the placard and retrieve his/her driver’s license or TWIC.

The parking placards will be loaned as a convenience and should allow for 15 minute parking on Canal Street in front of the building. The last spot on the right-hand side of Canal Street (facing the Customhouse) is reserved 24×7 and is therefore unavailable for broker/agent parking. CBP is allowed by the city of New Orleans to regulate authorized parking at and around the streets that border the Customhouse. In turn, this agreement gives Federal Protective Service (FPS) the authority to enforce parking in these areas within the agency’s jurisdiction.

Neither CBP nor FPS are responsible for vehicles parked around the Customhouse, to include theft, damage or parking violations.
