SUBJECT: Passing of Chief CBP Officer Michael J. Ruiz

The Area Port of New Orleans regrettably reports the passing of Chief CBP Officer Michael Ruiz on Saturday August 30, 2014. A memorial will be held on Saturday September 13, 2014 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Kenner Presbyterian Church, 2139 Iowa Ave., Kenner LA 70062. Condolences may be sent to Mrs. Theresa Ruiz at 1937 Roosevelt Boulevard, Kenner, LA 70062.

Chief Ruiz began his career with the U.S. Customs Service in New Orleans in 1979 as a CBP technician working various assignments in the Entry Division. He became a Customs Inspector in 1987 and was promoted to a Senior Customs Inspector, Supervisory Customs Inspector, Supervisory CBP Officer and a Chief CBP Officer in October 2009. Mike’s knowledge, dedication and compassion will be missed by CBP New Orleans, as well as his federal and industry partners.

Mike’s family is participating in a walk for lymphoma and leukemia treatment and cures on November 6, 2014. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to Mike’s team.
